I am very happy to see you here!
Let me tell you something about me.
I am Nuria Canizalez, I was born in El Salvador, the smallest but warmest corner of Central America. I grew up next to my parents, my sister and brother. I am the mother of two beautiful daughters. I am a Medical Doctor with a master’s degree in Public Health and a master´s degree in Administration and University Management. Throughout my career I have held different leadership and management positions in national and international organizations.
I learned how to drive at my thirties and learned English as a second language at my forties, after all I keep learning. After 25 years of uninterrupted growth as a woman, mother and professional, an unexpected event took my life to a crossroad, to a point of no return, where I would radically change the way I knew my life until that moment.
This critical point was called “Migration”. By 2016, my daughters and I were leaving our country to start a new life in the United States. This great change pushed me to think about reinventing myself and while struggling with loneliness and confusion in my new home, my ex-husband and father of my daughters suddenly died of a stroke and heart attack due to arterial hypertension and uncontrolled diabetes, overweight , physical inactivity, bad nutritional habits and a galloping depression.
At this time, although the exercise was already part of my daily routine, it became my new personal project, I began to devote time to train and study about the benefits of physical activity, nutrition and mental health. As Salubrista I began to review the statistics on chronic non-transmissible diseases, including depression and its risk factors, confirming the accelerated growth of these in the last 10 years as well as the acceleration of suicide rates among the population from 14 to 29 years. The most important thing about this topic is that all these conditions are completely preventable through the incorporation of healthy living habits, including physical activity, good nutrition, reading, sleeping well and others.
If I now had to define myself in one sentence, I would say: “I am passionate about the physical exercise of high demand, lover of challenges, engaged with service to others and Doctor by profession.”
I am currently working in the area of quality improvement in a primary health center, which allows me to be monitoring the progress in reducing the risk factors associated with chronic diseases and that is what this site is all about.
Through my web site and blog I will be sharing with you the different types of physical activity that you can perform, varied exercise routines that, more than helping you to look good, will make you feel good; nutritional recommendations; easy recipes to prepare and take to your work; and of course I will be sharing important issues about health in general and other topics that will help you stay motivated and what to do to acquire new habits.
I hope you have so much fun with me now, this site is designed for someone like you. People who want to achieve greatness, who love challenges, changes and who want to help others
